Happy Thanksgiving!

This weekend is Thanksgiving up here in Canada, and so in true teacher tradition, I had my class create a Thanksgiving craft to bring home. I didn`t want to make the standard (yet extremely cute) hand-print turkeys that they made in Kindergarten, but I still wanted something cute. My conundrum was born. After a few days of searching and taking stock of the art supplies available to me, I came up with our crazy Turkeys (or Silly Turkey`s to be more politically correct.

I gave each student a sheet of orange construction paper which I had drawn a circle on in the middle lower third. Each student then glued pre-measured and cut strips of ribbon to the paper, ensuring each piece touched the circle. I had left my sample in two pieces so they could see how they were supposed to touch.

After gluing their "feathers" to the paper, they took my body template and traced and cut it out before gluing over the circle on the orange construction paper.

I gave each student two googly eyes, in different colours and different sizes, as well as small pieces of orange and red paper for the beak and gobbler.

It was so easy, and a big hit. I hope you enjoy it as well if you choose this craft for your Thanksgiving celebrations next October (or this November for my American followers).
