Chalk Board Woes

At the beginning of the month, at the end of one day when my kiddos and I were cleaning up our class for the day, we were all started by a loud cracking noise.

What had happened was that our chalkboard had FALLEN OFF THE WALL!

No one was injured, but the few students who were stacking their chairs in front of it thought that they had done it somehow.

Thankfully we don't use it. I have things taped to it, and come charts stapled right above it, so it's being leaning against the wall until maintenance comes won't be a huge issue. Plus, there's a bookcase in front of one end which should keep it upright for the time being.

Roots and Shoots 2015

Last year I did almost the same experiment. but here we are doing a modified version. I put two students per bag in the window, and two of each of two types of seeds. Each student folded and placed in a paper towel, and I ran a line of 6 staples to hold the seeds up and away from the water at the bottom.

We're doing this so students can actually OBSERVE the roots and shoots as a plants begins to grow. Looking at a poster in FINE, but I'd much rather see it for REAL, wouldn't you?

Doubles Freebie

One of my earliest freebies here on my blog, were these doubles posters. Someday, I may remake them for TPT with clipart I can give credit to, but for now these are good enough for me and my kiddos. If you'd like your own copy, click on the picture.

Community Name Art

My AWESOME coworker who teaches grade 3, does some pretty awesome art projects with her kiddos. This one has the students breaking our community name into three parts, and painting a petite picture of each word part before putting it in order so an observer can figure out the name of our village from their art. Pretty special, because not every community could do this.

Responsible Adults

Do you remember to get your kiddos to stack chairs at the end of the day, and put away their indoor shoes?
For my kiddos if they forget to put away their shoes, they get put in my classroom lost and found, it's helping, but they still need constant reminders to put their shoes back in their cubby at the end of the day.

I can only imagine how our AWESOME janitorial staff deals with a school full of kiddos with the same aversion to putting shoes away.

It's up to us, the responsible adults to make sure our kiddos learn to respect the janitors.

Hot days

We've started to have a few really HOT days in our school. by 3:30 students are not really able to learn any more. 25.9 CELSIUS before there were any kids at school for the day, youch!

Thankfully, when they turned the fans OFF, the hot air stopped being pushed around. For now this is helping keep us from boiling by home time.

Science Guys 2015: 3

For our third lesson with the Science guys this year, they did a few experiments with my kiddos about forces. they dropped two glasses, one full, one empty and the kids had to notice that they fell at the same speed.

Then the guys tried to pry apart hand that were pushing against each other with force, and then had a student push the hands instead of pull up, and they were amazed at how a student could do it, but an adult couldn't because of the force they used!

Working on my store

I've been steadily updating products and adding new ones the last month, and plan that to be my focus all summer.

Check out my latest offerings:

Letter Reversal Playdough Mats

I have that one special student who is struggling so much with learning his letters. Right now he is SOOO close, but the letters he has yet to master are almost all on the letter reversal list. So I created this new series of products with him in mind. I'm spending the last month of school working with him to differentiate between the two.

Letter Reversal Clip Cards

Sneaker Club

We all have those students who need the extra practice and incentive to become proficient at shoe tying.
I created this little club for in my room, and now you can use it too!

End of the Year Bulletin boards 2015

It's that time of year again, where teachers and other school staff put up Bulletin boards to celebrate the end of the year. My post last year featuring my Superhero themed board is on of my MOST pinned links on Pinterest:
End of Year Bulletin Board: Superhero

This year I again went with Superheros, but with more kiddos in my class, and a smaller outside bulletin board, I went with the Bat Signals you see below. The caption says "Signalling for some 2nd graders!"

I looked around our school, and saw all these awesome end of year bulletin boards. I'll hopefully have another post in a few weeks with boards other staff members have put up.

Guided Reading Levels

Just thought I'd share the guided reading levels in my division. I'd rather if we were using a standard that common, but it works for our kiddos.

Sticker Cards

I've changed up my classroom management plan a bit again, my class is very busy, and I needed change.

I found these cute cards on TPT by Language and Speech Literacy

I printe dfour to a page to save on paper.
They are SOO popular in my class. Only problem is they are stealing each others stickers. Next Year I may stamp them instead....
