Teacher Appreciation Week at Educents!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
teacherappreciation_emailnews

I've wanted to be a teacher ever since I first met Mrs. Rathbun when I was in grade Primary (Kindergarten to most of you).

I can remember every elementary teacher I ever had, and they all taught me important life lessons.

My grade one teacher was Mrs. Maxwell. I LOVED her. She hatched chicks in our class, it was awesome. I'll never forget seeing her hold the eggs up to the projector light so we could see the growth of the chicks inside the eggs.

What was truly surreal was during my first year as a certified teacher I got to be a substitute teacher in her class. It was SOO weird to be in her room not as a student but as a colleague.

Here are three reasons why I am thankful for educators:
  1. Teachers made me want to follow in their footsteps.
  2. Teachers are some of the most loving and knowledgeable people I know.
  3. Teachers love to share ideas to make each other better!
Education has such an impact on ourselves and our little ones. Educents is here to help you pay it forward. In honor of Teacher Appreciation week, Educents & Peekapak have teamed up to provide your favorite educators with a gift basket worth over $40, which includes a FREE $10 Educents Gift Card & 3 months of Peekapak lesson plans (3 digital storybooks, 12 in-class lessons & 12 at-home activities) that teach Character Education and Language Arts.
So, whether it's your mom, your classroom teacher, your neighbors, or another special human being who taught you important lessons, thank them by giving them a FREE gift basket, on Educents!

Notebook Scribbles

I was just going through my students notebooks last week to finish off our third quarter report cards. Keep in mind that I teach first grade...

I found this sketch of a dude in the back of a boys scribbler.

Is it just me.... or does it look a bit like Fidel Castro? lol

Circle of Courage Craft

Here's just a simple craft I did with my class a few weeks ago.

It's the traditional native Medicine Wheel. In this community it's more commonly referred to as the Circle of Courage.

I wanted to make a multimedia craft, so this has Red yarn, Black construction paper, Yellow Crepe paper and White tissue (in this case actually a coffee filter). I think they turned out very nicely.

I LOVE including native activities into my week.

Pink Shirt Day 2015

A few times this year I have shared with you my newest product, the Pink Shirt Day package.

In Saskatchewan, we don't officially do Pink Shirt Day in February like many of you do, we lean towards the date in April. The international day of Pink, which this year fell on April 8th.

However, that was smack dab in the middle of our Easter break, so the Canadian Red Cross in Saskatchewan, declared April 1st to be our Pink Shirt Day.

Here are a few of the products from the package in action in my classroom this year.
We loved making our bullying dudes, and wore our necklaces with pride.

They also really loved their certificates, but I can't share any pictures due to the faces issue.

I can't wait to update the file with these pictures and some new ideas I have up my sleeves!
