In Short, as of March 4th, we are still looking for Canadian bloggers from all 3 territories, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Update: As of March 11th, we are still hoping to find bloggers to represent The Yukon, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

FAQ:

My province is claimed, can I still take part?
Yes, the More the merrier! Our country is so large, it would be unfair to only allow one blogger from each of our very diverse provinces.

What sort of book do I need to do?
Any book featuring or teaching about your province or region is ideal, but I'm no stickler for rules. As long as it's a book by a Canadian author, then I'm game if you are!

What type of resource should I share?
Games, crafts, worksheets, response activities, colouring pages, the sky is the limit!

How many resources should I share?
At least one is all I ask, but if you've created more, or have more craft and game ideas to accompany the book, by all means, please share. Just make sure there's at least one that is free.

Can I charge for my product?
Yes.... but it would much friendlier if everyone shared at least one resource for free that we could all use in our own classrooms.

When will the Blog hop be?
This question is MUCH harder to answer! Hopefully before the end of the school year, it just depends on when we get participants from each province. I hope we'll get people teaching in the territories too, but I know the odds are not in our favour, so I'm not waiting for them, but if they sign up, I'll be ecstatic.
UPDATE: June 1st has been chosen at random.

How does a blog hop work?
I've seen them a few different ways, but this one I'll share the links to each of the participating blogs the day of the hop, first thing in the morning. Probably about 7am AST. I'll schedule the post ahead of time so it's on time. Hopefully each participant will also schedule their posts for the same time. In your post, you can either steal my list and share at the bottom of your post, or link back to my post so your readers can start at mine, the choice is yours.

Do I have follow you and the other participants to participate?
NO! But I'm sure everyone would love new readers, I know I feel secretly happy every time I see my numbers creep up. I'd LOVE new followers either here or on my fanpage.

Do I need to have a blog?
I think most people interest do, but in case you don't all you have to do is on June First leave a post on my fanpage with a link to a google document or another free method of sharing any worksheets you've created.I will on June 2nd take all these posts and give credit to any ideas shared on facebook.

Do I need to use Google Docs?
No, I just find it's a great free way to share resources. You can also use Tpt, or any other preferred method. I don't recommend giving out your email or asking for others emails so you can forward a copy of your resource though. You can't predict how many people will ask for your resource!

Any Other Questions I missed?

  1. I think you've covered all of my questions! :) I had to order my book and I can't wait to get it so that I can get started! I have some cool ideas for it! :)

I personally think that a blog hop should offer free products. I will not charge for mine.

  3. I have the same question as above...I've actually made my book live on my blog already because I've had a number of people looking for it. Just working on activities now to go with it.

  4. I am ready to start using my book in my classroom, so the June 1st date will work well for me. I am looking forward to seeing what other books are being shared. I didn't realize I was to create activities and/or worksheets to go with it. I am glad I stopped by to get an update. Now I can start to think in that direction.

I thought of it a few weeks ago and looked up the info again - just to confirm the date. I'm still working on my post - but I'll have it ready to go by then. Thanks again for organizing!!

  9. I am not a blogger or a teacher, however I am fascinated with this project. I am doing this project with my 9 year old daughter. I was intrigued by the series S is for Spirit Bear A B.C. Alphabet Book. Although our library does not have all the books in this series for each province I did manage to put a hold on the ones they have. I also find a good book for the Yukon. It is called Yukon Larger Than Life - Provinces and Territories of Canada it is published by Weigl. The book is easy for anyone including us lay people to use with children. The book has fabulous pictures and little side boxes called GET THE FACTS. It also has a box high lighting a connected part that links you to a website for more information eg. Natural Resources. Another feature I like about this book is it has several words through out in BOLD lettering. In the back of the book there is a Glossary and these BOLD lettered words are defined here. Also at the back of the book is another great feature called BRAIN TEASERS. They include multiple choice and true or false questions for kids to answer so you can gage the kids understanding of the content! Also near the end of the book is a page dedicated to CANADA. It consists of a map of Canada with all the provinces and territories lined out. And it has the a list of the Confederation dates for each province/territory. This page also shows the symbols of Yukon: Flag, coat of arms, flower, bird, tree, and gem.

This is also a "series" of books so there is one for each province.

Another point to highlight that will encourage all across Canada to read is the program at TD Canada Trust Bank. Register your child 18 and under for a Youth Saver account and when they have read 10 books the bank deposits $10.00 in this account.

There is a website that describes the program in detail and gives you a printout to track your childs progress. http://www.tdbank.com/summerreading/ Well hope you found this information useful!
